Inside Passages draws upon the unique power of place that is intrinsic to the "Inside Passage" waterway that arcs up the Northwest Coast from Puget Sound to Southeast Alaska. The experience combines wilderness journey, meditation practice, and engaged conversation. Traveling to places of stunning natural beauty and wildness, we move through the outer wilderness by kayak, paying close attention to the coastal marine and forest ecosystems that surround us as we go. But we also embark upon another kind of "inside passage", one that leads deep into the silence of the soul.
On this passage, we draw upon Buddhist and Judeo-Christian contemplative practice, forging a closer link between inner and outer wilderness exploration. The project seeks in particular to work with professionals in the areas of religion, science, business, and environmental activism, in an effort to explore the spiritual roots of the present environmental crisis. Our quest is to deepen our connection to the natural world, while wrestling with the hard questions of personal and vocational tranformation in response to the challenges of our times.
